On a balmy summer evening, 80 staff, friends and partners made their way to the Thistle Hotel in Cardiff for the second SCAN Ball. The men looked dapper in their suits and the ladies looked lovely in their dresses and strappy shoes! Guests mingled over a welcome drink before making their way through to the candlelit ballroom for dinner. Before the meal began, Louise Casella, Chair of the SCAN committee, welcomed everyone to the Ball and got the guests warmed up with game of ‘heads and tackle’ (in honour of the Tenovus ‘Check your Tackle’ Male Cancer Awareness Campaign!)
Guests enjoyed a superb three course meal, followed by a moving speech by Helen Rees, a Tenvous nurse. She gave everyone a valuable insight into her work and helped to remind guests of the reason why they were there - to have fun and to raise money for a very worthy cause at the same time! Guests then generously put their hands in their pockets for the raffle, where some superb prizes were won, including a night’s accommodation in the 4* Park Plaza Hotel, a £150 luggage set and tickets and vouchers for local pubs, clubs and restaurants. After a final game of ‘heads and tackle’ there was a whisky roll, where the men proved to be far too heavy handed whilst rolling their pound coins towards a whisky ‘jack’, before everyone hit the dancefloor until the early hours!
A good time was had by all and the SCAN committee is very grateful to the generosity of the guests on the night and to the prizes provided by local businesses.
The night raised just over £1400 for Tenovus and we hope that next year’s Ball will be even bigger and better.
