Other Events…
SCAN is always delighted to help publicise other social or fundraising activities that are taking place across the University – below are some events that are taking place during the next month:
Staff Volunteering Project
The SVC division within the Students’ Union would be delighted to welcome staff who would like to volunteer to update a local school playground. This activity will take place on Friday 25 January 2008 and will involve some painting and gardening. If you would like to volunteer then please email Devinda De-Silva at: de-silvad@Cardiff.ac.uk
Mothers of Africa Concert
Mothers of Africa is an educational charity set up by the School of Medicine’s Department of Anaesthesia with NHS Wales colleagues in response to maternal mortality figures in Sub-Saharan Africa. The charity aims to help countries like Benin, a country which has only 11 anaesthetists for 11 million people. In Cardiff alone there are 140 anaesthetists.
One of the UK's leading tenors, Wynne Evans is supporting the work of Mothers of Africa at a concert to be held in Llandaff Cathedral (31 January 2008). Wynne will be joined by two sopranos from the University’s Cardiff International Academy of Voice and the Choir Cor Caerdydd. The concert ‘Cardiff sings Classics’ - in aid of Mothers of Africa is part of Cardiff University’s 125th anniversary celebrations in 2008.
Tickets for ‘Cardiff sings Classics’ - in aid of Mothers of Africa are available by phone on 0870 013 1812 or from www.ticketsource.co.uk/cardiffmusic - please join us for a wonderful evening of entertainment whilst supporting an extremely worthwhile cause.
Bobath Children's Therapy Centre
Bobath Children's Therapy Centre Wales is a charity that is supported by a number of members of Cardiff University staff and has been successful in receiving a grant from the Local Community Causes Fund two years in a row. Bobath have asked SCAN if we could announce the fact that they have registered with a charity lottery scheme called Unity Lottery.
Each member is given a unique number which costs £1 per week with 50 pence going directly to Bobath. There are no administration costs for Bobath and they will receive a profit cheque each month. Players have a 1 in 63 chance of winning a prize & all players have an equal chance of winning no matter what organisation they are supporting. Top prize is £25K.
This will be an excellent additional income stream for Bobath Children's Therapy Centre Wales and if you would like to support them and join in today you could win £25,000!
For further information please visit: www.unitylottery.co.uk or go directly to the Bobath page at www.unitylottery.co.uk/bobath.
