Novell Log In Accounts
All new students should have a Student ID Number on their identity card. They should also be listed as a registered student on the University’s Student Record Systems (SIMS). A Novell login account will automatically be created by the IDMAN system if the above criteria are met.An account will only be created manually if a student is classified as a Visitor (eg. Erasmus student not taking any taught modules and carrying out research). He/she must produce a letter of introduction from a serving academic member of staff or get the academic to send a request to the ENGIN IT Helpdesk stating approval for this account to be created. Departure date, room location and any other contact details must also be provided. Alternatively, print out and send the 'Computer Login Registration' form to Derek Griffiths S/4.03.
Novell Log In H Drive Quota Limitations
Please be aware that all students have a 100 MByte file space quota allocation on their H: login drive. Exceeding this amount will result in you NOT getting emails delivered to your mailbox and in some circumstances cause corruption to your Pegasus mail installed software. This will result in you missing important messages sent by the Teaching Office, Module Leader or Personal Tutor. Note that when you log in an announcement should appear telling you how much quota you have used.
Module Selections, SIMS and Blackboard
Students must ensure that their data on the SIMS database correctly records all modules they are taking or re-sitting for this academic session. If you have any doubt about this, go to your relevant teaching office and ask them to confirm this.Blackboard is automatically linked to your SIMS database record, so failure to get SIMS up-to-date will result in Blackboard also not being correct.
Email Distribution Lists
ENGIN IT Staff are responsible for automating the inclusion of all UnderGrad and Taught MSc students onto these lists at the start of each academic year. Due to late enrollers and students switching courses it can be difficult to keep these lists up to date. Please submit a ticket to the ENGIN IT Helpdesk if you are on the wrong list or are getting NO emails from your teaching office.
