Recycling Computer Equipment
Computers, CRT monitors and other electrical equipment can no longer be simply disposed of using land fill sites, and must be disposed of in an environmentally and ecologically friendly manner. The University has agreed to comply with the legislation to be introduced under the WEEE Regulations (Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment).
ENGIN IT will currently arrange for disposal of redundant equipment, via requests from the ENGIN IT Helpdesk . The arrangement of the scheme with Estates permits re-usable working equipment, above a pre-defined specification, to be re-distributed in the local community.
Please note, the cost of disposal will increase with the age of the item. It is strongly recommended that computer equipment is disposed of at the end of its useful life, and not then stored for a further indefinite period. For example a 14inch monitor is currently below the current usable specification and would incur a disposal charge of £7. Charges are also made for erasing data from hard drives, non-working equipment and below specification items.
