Research Areas
At Cardiff School of Engineering we offer a wide range of postgraduate research opportunities across the core disciplines of civil, electrical, electronic, mechanical and manufacturing engineering.
Research activities in the School take place within six multidisciplinary research institutes which cover most of the major research areas across engineering. Students work in some of the best research facilities and receive supervision from internationally renowned research staff. The School is widely recognised as a leading centre for engineering research, with over 95 per cent of our staff involved in nationally or internationally renowned work. This means that research students within the department are often supervised by academics who are active in cutting-edge research and are highly regarded in their field.
In recent years, more than £30 million has been invested in the construction of the Queen's Buildings, home to the School of Engineering and the Schools of Physics and Computer Science. The complex is close to other academic departments, the Students' Union and the City Centre. It houses outstanding facilities including spacious and well-equipped teaching and research laboratories. There is also an on-site library containing a broad range of books and journals, the latest computer and CD ROM reference media and quiet areas for study.
