    Professors Keith Williams and Tony Griffiths from the Cardiff School of Engineering have received wide media coverage of their Knowledge Transfer Partnership award for work on sustainable development with a local company LAS Recycling Ltd.

    The Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, Lord Mandelson, received an insight into Cardiff’s work on low carbon technology when he visited the School on Thursday. Welsh Assembly Government Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing, Jane Davidson, also attended the visit to the School's energy research laboratories.

    Dr Cath Holt from Cardiff School of Engineering, working with the University of Bath, has developed software to automatically recognise non-linguistic sounds such as laughter, sneezing, yawning or crying. This can be used to generate realistic computer animations.

    AM Jane Davidson Opens Estuarine Model

    The Welsh Assembly Minister for Sustainability, Environment and Housing, Jane Davidson, has officially unveiled a physical model of the Severn Estuary designed and built by researchers at Cardiff School of Engineering’s Hydro-environmental Research Centre, led by Professor Roger Falconer.   These researchers are making it possible to more accurately predict the impact of using the world's second highest tidal range as a source of possible energy.
