- Engineering Leads the Way on Energy Research
The School of Engineering is leading the way on energy research and has launched its new Institute of Energy, a multidisciplinary research group working on energy and energy related projects.
- Engineering Professors win Welsh Government Award
Professors Keith Williams and Tony Griffiths from the Cardiff School of Engineering have received wide media coverage of their Knowledge Transfer Partnership award for work on sustainable development with a local company LAS Recycling Ltd.
- Lord Mandelson visits Engineering
The Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, Lord Mandelson, received an insight into Cardiff’s work on low carbon technology when he visited the School on Thursday. Welsh Assembly Government Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing, Jane Davidson, also attended the visit to the School's energy research laboratories.
- Professor Peter Wells receives Honour
Professor Peter Wells has been appointed a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in the New Year Honours List. He has received this honour for his services to engineering and healthcare.
- Engineering Celebrates Research Assessment 2008 Success!
18/12/2008Cardiff School of Engineering has improved its research quality significantly since the previous Research Assessment Exercise (2001), consolidating its position as one of the top 10 research led Engineering schools in the UK.
- Cardiff Student wins Delta Competition
Cardiff Civil Engineering student, Fang Yenn Teo, has won first prize in the prestigious 2008 Delta Competition for his paper "Mangroves, Natural Defences against Natural Disasters".

- Animations Brought to Life
Dr Cath Holt from Cardiff School of Engineering, working with the University of Bath, has developed software to automatically recognise non-linguistic sounds such as laughter, sneezing, yawning or crying. This can be used to generate realistic computer animations.
- Liberal Democrat Representatives Visit School
Elected representatives from the Liberal Democrats, Jenny Randerson AM and Jenny Willot MP, visited the School of Engineering on Friday, February 1st 2008.
- Severn Estuary Model
The Welsh Assembly Minister for Sustainability, Environment and Housing, Jane Davidson, has officially unveiled a physical model of the Severn Estuary designed and built by researchers at Cardiff School of Engineering’s Hydro-environmental Research Centre, led by Professor Roger Falconer. These researchers are making it possible to more accurately predict the impact of using the world's second highest tidal range as a source of possible energy.
- Prof Karen Holford wins WISE Award
Professor Karen Holford from Cardiff School of Engineering, has received the WISE Excellence Award for her personal contribution to engineering and a long term commitment to supporting girls and young women in science and engineering.
- New Director of CIREGS
Professor Nick Jenkins, currently at the University of Manchester, has been appointed as the new Director of the Centre for Integrated Renewable Energy Generation and Supply (CIREGS).
- Partnership with Laing O'Rourke
A partnership between Cardiff School of Engineering and the construction company Laing O'Rourke to conduct innovative research into concrete structures was celebrated at a special luncheon event at Cardiff University on Friday.
