Projects
The Projects Team is managed by two Directors of Estate Development, Stephen Duddridge and Ian Lomer. The Directors are supported by an Assistant Director, Paul Yeoman.
Major/Capital Works
Capital projects are administered by two projects teams within the directorate:
- Project Managers Pat Cawley and TBA supported by Project Engineer Ken Meecham.
- Project Managers Jon Simcock and TBA supported by Project Engineer Nigel Griffin.
Both these teams are supported by a team of Clerk of Works.
They have a responsibility to manage all Capital Works projects from the initial enquiry to the settlement of the final account.
This includes the following:-
- Liaise with client schools and directorates to establish their requirements for a project and translate these requirements into a comprehensive project brief, defining cost limits, building standards and time scales;
- Utilising the above brief, commission external consultants, from the University's approved list. Liaise with and monitor their performance during the project;
- Ensure that adequate drawings, specifications and bills of quantities are prepared by the consultants to allow tenders to be sought;
- Prepare contract documentation based on JCT or other appropriate forms of contract and act as the "contract administrator" ensuring that all procedures comply fully with the University's Standing Orders and Financial Regulations;
- Ensure the project is managed in accordance with the contract and is implemented to time and within agreed budget;
- Check all valuations of works carried out "on site", interim and final accounts prior to authorisation;
- Provide progress reports for Project Groups and Estates Committee.
Minor Works
The Project Manager (Guy Henry) supported by two Project Officers (Paul Roberts & Peter Bourne), along with the Project Engineer Electrical (John Crofts) and the Project Engineer Mechanical (Howard Clubb) have the responsibility for the design and management of all new minor works projects from the initial enquiry to the settlement of the final account.
This includes the following:-
- Liaise with client schools and directorate to establish their requirements for a project and translate that into a comprehensive project brief;
- Prepare budget estimates for submission to the relevant school/directorate;
- Carry out surveys as necessary to allow preparation of tender drawings and specifications;
- Prepare tender drawings and specifications to cover complete building/electrical/mechanical installations, ensuring compliance with University's Standing Orders and Financial Regulations;
- Supervise all tender invitations;
- Supervise contracts and contract staff and resolve any queries/problems which may occur during the course of the contract;
- Carry out valuations of work carried out "on site" and check interim and final accounts;
- Provide progress reports for Project Groups and Estates Committee.
