Financial Contingency Fund
The Welsh Assembly Government provides discretionary funds to help students who:
- need extra financial help to meet particular costs which are not already being met from statutory (or other) sources of funding.
- who have emergency payments for unexpected crises.
- where a student may be considering leaving Higher Education because of financial problems.
The fund is able to give non repayable grants to help students. Student are however, expected to explore other means of helping themselves, such as finding part-time or vacation work, applying careful budgeting, and using savings and student overdrafts or arranging a loan (pg). Priority is given to students with children, priority debts, a disability, care leavers, or final year students in difficulty. Eligibility to apply does not guarantee awards will be made.
Please note: you can only apply for the academic year 2010/11 once you have enrolled and in receipt of your first instalment of the maintenance loan, if applicable. The first payment date from the Financial Contingency Fund is the end of September 2010.
