Dorothy Allin - Supporting Musical Students

Dorothy Allin

I have had a passion for music from an early age and my career has been as a singer, classically trained musician and, later, as a Music Examiner for the Associated Board of Music.

My career has taken me around the world several times to places as diverse as Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Iceland, Germany, Holland, Cyprus, Malta, South Africa, New Zealand and the United States of America.

"Cardiff's Expert Tuition and Guidance"

The reason that I have chosen to support Cardiff University is, that only through their expert tuition and guidance was I able to develop my solid grounding in music. My undergraduate course covered all aspects of the subject, including acoustics, harmony, form and composition. While at Cardiff University I also had the opportunity to learn vocal musicianship and perform with some of the great artistes, including the renowned twentieth-century soprano Elisabeth Schumann and Welsh composer Grace Williams. I am particularly grateful for the skill and insight given to me by Professor Joseph Morgan who, as the Head of School, plucked me 'out of the crowd' and gave me opportunities to shine by selecting me for lead roles.

Supporting Today's Generation of Students

I believe that in supporting Cardiff University, not only am I saying thank you for the education that Cardiff has given me, but I am also helping to ensure that today’s generation of students have similar opportunities to the ones that helped establish my career, and made me the person I am today.

A life in Music

Sadly, Dorothy passed away in December 2006. She will be remembered fondly for her passion for music and for her invaluable support of Cardiff University and its current students.
