Atmosphere and amenities

These two areas are more residential than the student area of Cathays and offer houses which are generally tightly-knit terraces with 3 or 4 rooms in each, although there are also some flats available.

Splott is particularly well-known for its Sunday market which offers a host of products including fresh produce as well a variety of clothing, sports goods and household goods.  For those inclined towards a more wholesome lifestyle this area offers many options including  Clifton Street Canteen (a vegetarian haven) and Hungry Planet wholefood shop.  The STAR centre is a focal point for the community offering leisure facilities as well as hosting a range of classes and events throughout the year.

Notable streets

  • Clifton street, which is home to a range of charity and food shops - including a wholefood store and cafe.

Socialising

There are a few pubs dotted around both Splott and Adamsdown for you to choose from.  The close proximity to the city centre,  Roath and  the Bay  also opens up many options to residents of these areas.

The majority of restaurants are clustered around Clifton Street and Broadway and offer a great variety of cuisines from Portuguese to Persian, vegan to Andalusian.  The variety is vast and the close proximity to surrounding areas and the city centre ensures all palates are catered for.
