Arriving in a new place can be a challenging and exciting experience!

At Cardiff, we take great care to help you settle into your new way of life in the University by organising a range of induction activities. At these events you will find all the information, fun and friends you need to settle easily into UK life.

Here are the key events organised for International and European students, coming from outside the UK.

To find the locations you'll need to use the Campus Map

You will receive a welcome pack when you arrive in Cardiff University. In this pack will be a timetable of events. You can also pick up a pack from the International Student Help Desk on the 2nd floor the students’ union.

Welcome Talks and Lunch

Date: Tuesday 20 January
Time: 10.30 – 12.15
Venue: John Percival Building, Lecture Theatre 2.01 (campus map ref. 16)

What you need to do now you’ve arrived in Cardiff. Come and listen to several useful talks about living and studying in Cardiff, including how to use Cardiff University’s computing network, advice on support services, activities, clubs and societies that you can get involved in. Free lunch will be provided!

Discover Cardiff

Date: Tuesday 20 January
Time: 13.00 – 16.00
Meet: John Percival Refectory (campus map ref. 16)

Explore the City of Cardiff on a fact-finding walking tour with fellow student guides. You’ll be hungry after a 2-hour walk round the city, so come back to the University to see all your photos and for free tea/coffee and cakes!

Enrolment Support and Module Selection

Date: Wednesday 21 January
Time: 09.00 – 12.00
Venue: Glamorgan Building, Council Chamber (campus map ref. 49)

You will have an opportunity to discuss module choices with professors. You will choose your modules and complete the online enrolment process and finalise your class timetable.

Student ID Card Collection and Bank Letter Service

Date: Wednesday 21 January
Time: 14.00 – 16.00
Venue: International Office (campus map ref. 60)

Bring your passport (essential) and collect your ID card which will give you access to libraries, Students’ Union, University buildings and sports facilities. Staff will be taking your picture and processing your card at this venue. If you need to open a UK bank account, you can also pick up your bank letters here.

Free Walking Campus Tour

Date: Thursday 22 January
Time: 10.30 – 11.30
Meet: Front of Main Building, Museum Avenue (campus map ref. 39)

Find out where the really useful things are in the University with your student tour guides. Walking tours will take around an hour and will include practical information on every thing from great places for cheap food to finding the easiest and quickest way of getting
around campus.

Introductory Welsh Lesson - Only for those students who have opted for Welsh modules

Date: Thursday 22 January
Time: 15.00 – 17.00
Venue: John Percival Building, Room 1.69 (campus map ref. 16)

For students who have opted for the Welsh module, this will be your first introductory lesson where you will begin learning the history and language of Wales.

The Great British Quiz Night

Date: Thursday 22 January
Time: 19.30 – 22.00
Venue: CF10, Students’ Union (campus map ref. 38)
Price: Free

Open to all! Come to a fun general general knowledge quiz in a group, or on your own. Individuals welcome and we’ll find you others who are new to Cardiff to join in with. Superb prizes on offer for the winning team!

Having any problems with enrolment? Don’t have your username and password? Can’t access your student record? International Office staff will be able to help.

Other Activities

In the 3rd and 4th week of September there are lots of new activities taking place in the Students’ Union for all new students. These activities are organised just for you and are intended to give you an idea of what life at Cardiff is like. They also give you the opportunity to meet new friends and settle in before the busy first week of term.
