Postgraduate courses

You will usually need to have completed a relevant first degree with a good GPA score. Evidence of research skills are required to undertake a PhD programme.

As a Student at Cardiff University
Why did you choose Cardiff?

I had visited Cardiff before and I loved how beautiful and calm it was. I found it really interesting and convenient. As a student, money is a struggle, and Cardiff is one most affordable cities in the UK. Also, being a capital, you will find anything you need only 10 minutes away from you regardless of your location.

Tell us about your course. How is it different to classes back home?

I think that the classes are less formal than in other countries, which makes studying and learning a lot more relaxing and fun. A friendly environment is extremely important in your life, especially when it comes to study.

What you have enjoyed most about studying at Cardiff University?

As I mentioned before, the environment is relaxing and fun, the staff are great and the university is one of the best in the UK. It makes you feel lucky to be a student here.

Life in Cardiff
What is the best thing about living in Cardiff?

I really enjoy being in a community of students. Cathay's is an amazing place because it is easy to meet friends to study and go to lectures. I think that the social aspect of the University has been my favourite.

Are you a member of any clubs and/or societies? What’s it like to be part of a society?

I am not part of any society, although I have participated in several events run by different university societies.

How has the University supported you during your time here?

It is great to know that the university has such helpful staff. As an international student, I am really thankful to the International office and student services because they have always helped me with queries in the past. Overall, the staff and the university in general have created a great place to live and study, I know I’m in a good place and I feel comfortable being part of this great community.

What would be your advice for prospective students thinking about coming to Cardiff?

You are lucky to be in such a great community and you have a lot of things to do all the time. Make sure to stay busy and try everything Cardiff and the university have to offer.

What are your plans for the future?

I am expecting to get a Masters and continue with my studies in the UK. Eventually, I would like to get a job in Digital Media and Marketing. I am confident that everything that I have learnt in Cardiff will be really valuable in the future. Let’s hope for the best.

I have also got a photography website, check it out

Student views

I chose Cardiff primarily because it was identified as one of the best schools in the UK. I also did some research on the papers that the master’s degree students had produced which was really impressive and I wanted to be a part of that.

Shanahan Chua, Master in Business Administration

My favourite part of Cardiff would be the city centre - it's great area; it has all the shops and it is a really affordable city.
