Coming for Bridge Programme September 2012?

The information and documents below contain very important information that you need to know about coming to Cardiff for the Bridge Programme in September 2012

Please read everything carefully!

Induction Week 24 - 28 September 2012

All students need be in Cardiff for the start of Induction Week, Monday 24 September 2012. During Induction Week there are important meetings to attend, you will take our entry test and you will be able to meet your tutors and other students on the course. You will receive a lot of important information in this week which will help you settle into academic life at Cardiff University.

Enrolment for the Bridge Programme

There are 3 stages to enrolment:

  1. Online enrolment
    You will receive an email by September which will tell you how to enrol online for the Bridge Programme. You should try to do this BEFORE you arrive in Cardiff. If you are not able to, do not worry - we will help you to do it when you are here in Cardiff!

  2. ID card collection
    You must collect your University Identity Card after you have arrived at the University. You must take your passport and visa with you when you collect it from: 4th Floor, Students' Union, Park Place, Cardiff, CF10 3QN (Map Ref: 38)

    You can do this at the following times:
    • Monday 17 September – Friday 28 September (including weekend of 22 - 23 September)
    • Monday 1 – Thursday 4 October 09.30 – 16.30
  3. Registration with English Language Programmes
    You must attend all events on the ‘Bridge Programme Induction Schedule September 2012’, which can be found here.
    Special information for Bridge Programme students

    Unlike other students in the University, you do NOT need to pay your tuition fees online. You will need to pay your fees when you register with English Language Programmes on Monday 24 September. Information about how to pay your fees can be found in the ‘Bridge Programme Enrolment Information September 2012’ document which you can find here.

    If you are already in the UK or have been in the UK recently

    If you are already in the UK, you must the correct visa to enrol at Cardiff University. It is very important that you make sure you have a suitable visa to enrol at Cardiff University. If you are already in the UK, or have already had a Tier 4 student visa, please contact us immediately:

    Your contact details

    It is essential that you tell us of any changes to your correspondence and e-mail address so that we can continue to keep in touch with you during the coming months. It is very important we have your correct details. We will need to communicate important information throughout the summer about joining the course.

    University residences (accommodation)

    University residences will be available for you to move into from Wednesday 19 September 2012 - Sunday 23 September 2012.

    If you told us that you would like to live in University accommodation AND you have an unconditional offer for the Bridge Programme, you will have received an email from us which tells you how to apply for a place in university residences. Accommodation for Bridge Programme students will be in the Talybont South residence.

    Bridge Programme students apply for accommodation in a different way to other students. You must follow the instructions in the document which can be found here

    Private accommodation

    If you wish to live in private accommodation, please make sure you arrive in Cardiff early to allow yourself enough time to look for and move into a suitable flat or house. You will find it very difficult to do this once the course has started. If you would like any further information regarding private accommodation please email

    Travelling to Cardiff with your parents or other family members

    If your parents or other members of your family are accompanying you to Cardiff in September you MUST book hotel accommodation for them in Cardiff as soon as possible. For information about travelling to Cardiff please click here.

    Travelling to Cardiff alone

    If you are travelling alone, you might want to book a place on the free coach collection service from Heathrow and Cardiff airports. This service is available on Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 September and is for students only. Find out more about our Coach Collection Service.

    Using your computer in University residences

    RESLAN is the University’s computer network in halls of residence. To check whether your computer meets the minimum security requirements for use on the University network, please access the Internet with the machine you are bringing with you and click on the link below (note - do this again just before you leave home, to make sure nothing has changed):

    If your computer fails the test please make sure you rectify any issues before trying to connect to RESLAN, remember it's YOUR responsibility to make sure your machine has anti-virus software installed, is virus-free and is set to receive automatic security updates.
