Postgraduate Taught Scholarships 2014-15

We are pleased to announce that the Taught Masters Excellence Scholarship Scheme for 2015/16 entry has been confirmed.

We are committed to invest up to a total of £500,000 in this high value competitive scholarship scheme to support Home and EU students who are planning to start an eligible master's programme in September 2015.

The Scholarships are each worth a minimum of £3,000 and will be awarded in the form of a tuition fee discount.

This scholarship package will give high-calibre students the opportunity to study at a world-leading, research-intensive university and help ease the associated financial burdens.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Colin Riordan

Scholarships will be awarded based on academic excellence.

We have two deadlines after which scholarship decisions will be made:

* The Pathway to PhD scholarships (available only in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences) are for applicants applying for a master’s degree with the intention of going on to study at PhD level. The application will ask you to consider your research area and future sources of funding. It is recognised, however, that in making this application there is not a commitment to undertake further study, or to undertake further studies at Cardiff University. Similarly, in making an award, Cardiff University is not committing to making an offer for further study or for a further award.

The Scholarships are each worth a minimum of £3,000, with Scholarships awarded by the College of Physical Sciences and Engineering worth £3,780, and will be awarded in the form of a tuition fee discount. Students who are successful in gaining a scholarship will have this amount deducted from their tuition fees.

The Taught Masters Excellence Scholarships are available for a maximum of one academic year for full-time programmes, while for part-time students, the discount is applied across the duration of their programme. Full-time students studying a course which lasts longer than one year will not receive any further funding for additional years or will not be able to spread the tuition fee discount across the duration of their programme.

The Masters Excellence Scholarship application form will be made available on the SIMS Online Applicant Portal to all Home and EU students who have applied to an eligible postgraduate taught programme leading to a masters' degree in due course. Please sign up to our newsletter, with subject PGT Scholarship 2015, if you want to be notified when the application form is available.

The application form will remain on the Online Applicant Portal until the second scholarship application deadline of Wednesday 5th August 2015, 23.59 (BST).

Please see the Guidance Notes (available with the application form in the SIMS Online Applicant Portal) for further information. Only one application form per student will be accepted for the Postgraduate Taught Scholarships.

We have two application deadlines after which decisions will be made:

  • Sunday, 1st March 2015 23.59 (BST)
  • Wednesday, 5th August 2015 23.59 (BST) (subject to funding)

Please note: the University reserves the right to close applications at any time.
