English for Study and International Foundation Programmes

Cardiff University offers the English for University Study programme and the International Foundation programme for students who need to complete a preparation programme before starting their studies at Cardiff University.

Applicants for these programmes can apply directly to the English Language Programmes office using the application forms on the programme pages.

English for University Study Programme

The English for University Study programme is a full-time course in Academic English at Cardiff University for international students who need to improve their level of English language fluency to study at a university in the UK.

The programme runs from September to June, with entry points in September, January and May, so that students can join the programme at the stage that best fits their level of English.

Students studying on the programme benefit from an intensive English language course with an academic focus, which helps to prepare for a smooth transition into academic study at foundation, undergraduate or postgraduate study at Cardiff University or another UK institution.

More information and an application form are available here:

International Foundation Programme

The International Foundation programme is a full-time one-year academic programme at Cardiff University for students who need additional academic and English language skills to study at an undergraduate level in the UK.

The programme has three pathways, offering the only direct progression routes into undergraduate degrees in Business, Engineering and the Health & Life Sciences at Cardiff University. Students can also apply for progression to other courses at Cardiff University, and will receive counselling and support from the IFP office.

Students combine the study of English language modules and study skills with subject-specific modules taught in our academic schools.
