Information Sessions for Research Degree Supervisors

Information Sessions for Research Degree Supervisors

Cardiff University’s Code of Practice for Research Degree Programmes states that Heads of School will appoint as supervisors only those staff who have received adequate training. This is in line with the requirements and expectations of external bodies such as QAA and Research Councils.

In order to assist Schools in meeting this requirement, staff from Registry and the Graduate Centre regularly provide information sessions focussing on the University’s regulatory and quality frameworks.

The session will cover:

· Cardiff’s regulations and Code of Practice for Research Degrees
· Expectations and obligations (of postgraduate researchers and supervisors)
· Research Students’ Skills Development Programme (identifying training needs, the ‘Roberts’ agenda, how to access information, book courses)
· The Research Plan and Development Needs Analysis

These one hour sessions aim to signpost supervisors to relevant information and resources, but presenters will remain behind for further discussion if required.

To book a place, please e-mail graduateschools@cardiff.ac.uk

This session will not cover ‘supervision skills’ – instead please see the workshops offered on “Supervising Research Students” run via the Research Staff Career Development Skills Programme.
