Wales Research and Diagnostic PET Imaging Centre: An Introduction

2 hours

The Wales Research and Diagnostic Positron and Emission Tomography Imaging Centre (PETIC) is the first of its type in Wales and will provide the focus for cutting edge research and teaching for a network of higher education institutions across Wales and the UK, as well as delivering a local clinical service for NHS Wales patients. Building upon existing strengths, four major research areas for development through PET have been identified: Oncology; Neuroscience; Cardiovascular Sciences; PET Probes. The research strategy is to develop multimodal imaging approaches to take advantage of the comprehensive preclinical and clinical imaging methodologies now available: MRI, SPECT and a wide variety of optical methods. In addition the centre is developing multi-probe techniques to simultaneously visualise different physiological processes during normal function, pathologically altered function and therapy. This session will provide an overview of the new centre, the imaging techniques available and their application. (http://medicing.cf.ac.uk/petic/)
