Graphics Unit
Head of Graphics:
The Graphics Unit is equipped with both Apple Macintosh and PC computer systems.
There are so many computer programs and versions available that it is only possible for the Graphics Unit to support a number of key applications. If you are generating work for us electronically, then it is in your interest to check that we support not only the application you are using, but also the version, before you start.
Whatever type of artwork or graphic design is needed, an appointment should be made with a member of the Graphics Team to discuss your particular requirements and agree deadlines.

Graphic Design/Desk-top Publishing
A major part of our workload is the design and production of all types of printed matter, including patient information leaflets, forms, letterheads, logos, advertising brochures and annual reports, etc.
Projects are managed from conception through to finished print, with one of our particular advantages being a close working relationship with our photographic section and local, specialist printers.
Medical & Surgical Illustration
We specialise in medical and surgical illustration for publication, teaching and video. We also provide a full range of artwork, including cartoons, technical drawing, diagrams and computer-generated artwork.
Slide Design
Most clients originate their own computer slide presentations using software such as PowerPoint, but we can advise clients if they encounter difficulties.
Many teachers require a 'corporate' look to their presentations and we are ideally placed to design templates that exhibit good design and legibility qualities. Periodically the University runs courses in slide design using PowerPoint.

Poster Service
All posters for scientific meetings, conferences, promotional use, etc., are produced by our Poster Service on one piece of semi-gloss paper, printed on a large-format, high resolution, ink jet printer.
You can either prepare your poster yourself using a suitable graphics software program, such as PowerPoint (our standard system software) - see our Designing your own Poster web page - or take advantage of our Poster Design Service.
We are able to print posters from both PC and Apple Macintosh computer platforms.
Please remember that demand for posters tends to follow a seasonal pattern, therefore, to avoid disappointment, you should submit your poster file to us as soon as possible.
Web Page Design
We can design your web pages to make them visually attractive and readable.
Animation
Using specialist computer software, we can produce artwork for use in animated sequences that are suitable for video, multimedia and web sites.

The Media Resources Centre Print Unit (MRCPU) is a small scale off-set litho print shop with a range of finishing equipment for folding and booklet making. Ideally suited to long run print work (1000+ copies) of one or two colours. The Print Unit also orders print for Cardiff University, including supplying stationery (letterheaded paper, compliment slips and business cards) and arranging other types of printed material.
