How to Apply
To apply for the Diploma in Journaliam or the Masters in Journalism, use the the six steps below. These steps cover everything you need to apply.

The Application Process
Application forms should be typed or clearly hand-written.
Step 1:
Complete the ‘Application for Admission as a Postgraduate Student’ form (Please ensure that you indicate which option you are interested in studying on the application form).

Step 2:
Complete the ‘Additional Notes’ form. This is the most important part of your application and is an opportunity to demonstrate your commitment to journalism. This should replace the personal statement section on the application form.

Step 3:
Complete the ‘Referee Report Form’, one of which should be from an academic referee and the other from any journalism based work experience referee.

Step 4:
Include your CV (in addition to the application form).
Step 5:
Prepare a photocopy of your degree certificate (if graduated) or any transcripts of results to date if not yet graduated.

There is no advantage in applying early, students are not encouraged to apply before Christmas. Competition for places is high, so it is important that you take every opportunity to point out why you feel your claim to a place is distinctive.
The closing date for applications is the end of February 2012.
Do not send or enclose samples of your professional work with your application form.
Interviews
Applicants who are offered an interview should note that they take place during the Easter vacation and last all day. Those selected for interview for the Newspaper and Magazine courses will be invited to bring with them samples of professional work e.g. press cuttings, whilst interviewees for the Broadcast course will be expected to record an audio news bulletin.
Applying online
Students can apply online via the main Cardiff.ac.uk website however this is not the preferred method. Those choosing to do so should still complete steps 2 and 3 and send the completed forms directly to the University Registry.
