Health, Risk and News: The MMR Vaccine and the Media by Tammy Boyce has just been published by Peter Lang.
Dr. Tammy Boyce is Deputy Director of the Risk, Science, Health and the Media group. She is also a member of the Knowledge, Expertise and Science centre in the Sociology department.
Her research analyses media coverage of risk, science and health issues and the production and reception of these stories.
The book examines the MMR/autism controversy and asks who is to blame for making the MMR vaccine controversial. Based on analysis of television, radio and newspapers, interviews and focus groups, Health, Risk and News will interest all those interested in media coverage of science and health.
A masterly analysis of the MMR vaccine scare...also a gripping read. - Vivienne Parry, writer and broadcaster
Health, Risk and News offers readers a vivid picture of the process by which speculation about a vaccine/autism link was fanned into a major controversy...the book will be compelling reading for scholars and practitioners alike.
