Research
The School conducts cutting edge, inter-disciplinary research in journalism, media and cultural studies. We have attracted major research awards from the main funding councils (such as the Arts and Humanities and the Economic and Social Research Councils).
We are also regularly commissioned to carry out research for professional and industry organisations (e.g. the BBC, Independent Television Commission and National Union of Journalists) as well as for regulatory and governmental bodies (such as the Welsh Assembly, Electoral Commission and European Union).

We have received major research awards from bodies such as the British Academy, the Leverhulme Trust, the ESRC, the AHRC, the BBC and the Broadcasting Standards Commission.

Staff at the School publish prolifically in key journalism, media and cultural studies journals and in professional/ industry magazines.
PhD and MPhil Research
The school is home to a thriving cohort of forty five to fifty research students who carry out their research with world-leading scholars and practitioners.
(Re)-Constructing Multiculturalism Network and President's Research Scholarships
The President’s Research PhD Scholarships are “flagship” Cardiff awards which carry the prestige of association with the University’s new President, the Nobel Prize for Medicine (2007) winner, Professor Sir Martin Evans.
In determining in which areas to make these flagship scholarships available, the University has considered a number of key factors which, collectively, support strong outcomes for the successful scholarship applicants, the research area and the University.
