Supporting good causes

15 Tachwedd 2007

Cardiff University’s RAG week has got off to a flying start with pies being thrown at the Students’ Union executive to raise money for good causes.

Last year RAG (Raise and Give), Cardiff’s student fundraising society, raised more than £17,000 for local and national charities including Children in Need, Help the Aged, Holme Towers Marie Curie Hospice in Penarth and the cancer charity Tenovus.

On Friday (16 November) staff and students are invited to show their support for BBC Children in Need by making a suggested donation of fifty pence and wearing red for RAG. There will also be a bake sale next to the reception in the Student’s Union.

Toby Willis, President of the University’s Raising and Giving Society said: "Staff and students are always incredibly generous with their time and money in RAG week. This Friday we’re encouraging the University community to wear something red - it could be a red pair of socks or even a red suit - to support good causes.

"Hopefully RAG week will continue to grow in future years and see students continuing to make a valuable contribution."

Donations can be made at any of the RAG Week events or in collecting tins located in most departmental receptions and in the student's union.
