Award-winning writer joins University

17 Hydref 2007

An internationally published author is to help students advance their writing skills after the University was selected to host a Royal Literary Fund Fellowship.

Award-winning writer Rachel Bentham is based at the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies and will be on hand to offer students at the School advice on the style and structure of their writing.

Having had work published in several genres, including poetry, prose and scriptwriting, Rachel will share her experience and skills with students who would like to develop their written work.

Rachel, who is currently working on her next novel, said: "As a practising writer, I can provide a fresh look at people's writing, and quickly identify ways to improve it. Students can bring in current work, something they need to write, or past work, and together we'll look at their problem areas and work on them. I’m excited about meeting the students of the School and encourage all of them to bring me their work!"

Cardiff was selected for the Fellowship placement following a process of negotiation and assessments by the Royal Literary Fund. Rachel’s work at the University will be financed by the Fund. The aim of the Fellowship is to allow students of all levels of study to benefit from the experience of a professional author and enhance their writing ability through support and one-to-one coaching.

Head of the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies Professor Justin Lewis said: "We're honoured to welcome Rachel Bentham to the University. Our students will undoubtedly benefit from her skills and expertise and Rachel is a fantastic addition to the School."

Rachel will be based at the School for the 2007/2008 academic year. Further details can be found at the School’s website.
