Science show shortlisted for theatre award

25 Awst 2007

‘Visualise - the beauty of science’ is in the running for the Total Theatre Award for experimentation, after beating off competition from more than 400 competing productions. The innovative show uses live science experiments, physical theatre, music and film to illustrate - without words - the beautiful and curious world of science.

Wendy Sadler, founder of ‘science made simple’ a spin-out company from the School of Physics and Astronomy said: "We’re very excited to be shortlisted for this award as it is our first time at the Edinburgh fringe. We believe it is really important to break down the boundaries between art and science and to use shows like this to reach new audiences with science."

After ‘Visualise’ completes the run in Edinburgh, the team will be exporting the experience with a tour of nine countries in South East Europe in partnership with the British Council. It is hoped that the production can then come back to tour Wales and the rest of the UK.

The company was able to appear at the festival thanks to sponsorship from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) who were keen to support the presence of science at one of the world’s biggest arts events.
