A collection of photographs showcasing the construction and regeneration of the Chinese City of Xiamen has been displayed at the University.

Organised by the International Centre for Planning & Research at the School of City and Regional Planning, the exhibition introduced invited guests to the latest developments in Xiamen, highlighting its growth and progression over the last 25 years.

The exhibition was also a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the twinning of Cardiff with Xiamen.

The School has several links with Xiamen University, and run a joint Masters degree enabling students at Xiamen to study at Cardiff. The School is also involved in a number of ‘live projects’ giving postgraduate students from Cardiff the opportunity to work on real regeneration projects within Xiamen.

Dr Li Yu, Director of the International Centre for Planning & Research at the School of City and Regional Planning said: "The School of City and Regional Planning was delighted to host this exhibition at the University. Xiamen has developed into a beautiful city over the last two decades, and it’s fantastic that students from the School are able to get involved with regeneration projects within the city."

Cardiff University has strong links with China, and following the launch of the photography exhibition delegates visited the newly-opened Confucius Institute.

The Institute aims to help Welsh organisations and individuals build stronger links with China and offer a range of courses to help overcome challenges such as language, an understanding of business protocol and a knowledge of Chinese culture and traditions.
