Record levels of student satisfaction

27 Medi 2012

NSS 2012The University has recorded its highest ever level of overall student satisfaction.

89% of University students said they are satisfied with the quality of their course, the highest level since the annual National Student Survey (NSS) was introduced in 2005.

The NSS gives students at universities across the UK the opportunity to have their say on how satisfied they are with their university in a number of areas including teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, personal development and overall satisfaction.

Professor Patricia Price, the University’s newly appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor for Student Experience and Academic Standards said: "There is much to be proud of in our learning and teaching. This result is especially pleasing as it reflects the true views of our students – and the hard work of staff across the University.

"Whilst the overall result is extremely pleasing our students rightly expect, and deserve, continuous improvement. We may be outperforming many of our competitors, but we must continue to work to ensure a high quality experience for all our students."

Across the University, individual Schools continued to record very high levels of satisfaction.

In total, overall satisfaction rates were high spanning the humanities, science, engineering, healthcare and the professions. For the first time, the NSS also included a question on student satisfaction with their Students’ Union. Cardiff achieved one of the highest levels and came out well above the UK and Wales average, with 83% of students expressing overall satisfaction.

Cardiff also proved to be the University with the highest number of overall satisfied students in Wales and ranked 5th amongst the best research-intensive Universities in the UK.
