GPs and Dentists

Why register?

If you are from outside Cardiff and moving to the area you will need to join a local GP practice. You must register with a local GP if you are to ensure adequate health care for yourself as long as you are a student in this area. Attempting to find a doctor when you are ill is an unnecessary pressure that is best avoided, so please register as soon as possible. It is a condition, if you are going to live in a Hall of Residence, that you must register with a local GP.

How do I register?

If you do not have your medical card do not panic! The doctor of your choice will have the necessary forms if s/he is willing to accept you as a patient. If the practice accepts you as a patient your card will be kept and the Cardiff Local Health Board will send you a new medical card. The new card will have your new doctor's name on it. If you already have your NHS medical card simply take it to the practice of your choice.
