1985-89: Research Fellow, IRRU, University of Warwick. Four-year contract to undertake ESRC-funded research project on British managerial attitudes towards training.
1989-94: Research Fellow (promoted Senior Research Fellow 1993), IRRU, University of Warwick. Five-year contract to undertake ESRC-funded research project on personnel management policies for the secondary school teaching workforce.
1991-92: Centre for Economic Performance, LSE. One-year part-time consultancy on the CEP's project on UK training policies.
1994-98: Senior Research Fellow, IRRU, University of Warwick. Five-year contract to undertake ESRC-funded research into workplace change.
1998-06 Deputy Director of ESRC Centre on Skills, Knowledge and Organisational Performance, Warwick Business School, and Principle Research Fellow and then Professorial Fellow.
