About Us
Welcome to the Sport & Exercise webpages.
Following feedback received from new students last year it became clear that there was some confusion in understanding how sport is organised at the University, so we hope the inclusion of a brief explanation will be helpful.
Sport & Exercise is one of the two key partners delivering sport, the other being the Athletic Union. As partners we work closely in many areas, however each has specific responsibilities.
From 1st July 2008, Sport & Exercise became part of the Campus Services Division which forms part of the Physical and Financial Resources Directorate.
Our aim is to provide students and staff with a balanced, high quality and integrated sport and exercise service which meets the needs of a broad range of users.
Our key responsibility areas are:
- To manage all University sports facilities
- To promote the health and wellbeing benefits of regular physical activity
- To encourage participation in competitive and recreational sport
- To support and develop high level sports performance
Located within the Students Union, the Athletic Union is responsible for the administration of student sports clubs, BUSA fixtures, the Intra Mural Games programme and organising student sports events.
Additionally, the University Development Office plays an important role in supporting the raising of funds for defined sport projects.
These webpages have been created to provide an overview of the sports facilities, services and programmes available, however if you require further information please contact a member of staff at any of our reception desks and they will be pleased to assist you with your enquiry.
A particularly warm welcome is extended to all new students (and staff) who are invited to take advantage of the many opportunities on offer. Sport & Exercise is fully committed to enabling you to enjoy your sport and fitness experiences to the full and in our bid to continually improve our service levels your feedback and suggestions are very welcome.
Finally, if you are in doubt, why not ‘give it a go’? We look forward to welcoming you.
